Next week’s cover, “Skin Deep,” by Barry Blitt, pays homage to the Norman Rockwell painting “The Tattoo Artist.” We asked Blitt how he came up with this idea. “My grandfather was a Sunday painter, he used to copy a lot of Norman Rockwell paintings, so I was aware of all the classic images at a very young age,” he told us. “Mitt Romney looks like he stepped out of one of those pictures. It’s not much of a stretch to imagine him in many of the wholesome, enduring American situations Rockwell painted. The family in the station wagon before and after their vacation could easily be the Romneys and their five sons (with dog overhead). It’s also not hard to imagine Mitt in college garb—in one of those Rockwell vignettes—cutting that fellow-student’s hair as his buddies held the boy down.”
“ ‘The Tattoo Artist’ features a sailor with a long list of girlfriends’ inked names crossed out on his arm,” he said. “This seemed like a nice tableau for highlighting Mitt the politician’s shifting positions and convictions.”

I was not thrilled when I saw that you have plagiarized this expression to support your campaign by using it on posters, your Facebook page and as part of your stump speeches. Your politics and campaign are clearly not aligned with the themes we portrayed in our series. The only relevant comparison that I see between your campaign and Friday Night Lights is the character of Buddy Garrity - who turned his back on American car manufacturers selling imported cars from Japan.
Your use of the expression falsely and inappropriately associates Friday Night Lights with the Romney/Ryan campaign. […] Please come up with your own campaign slogan."
I love these.
Fuck you, Mitt.
This post is wonderful.

Today’s Most Awesome Tumblr: ‘Arrested Development’ Meets Mitt Romney
The amazing Tumblr Lucille and Mitt has been around for some time, but it’s only now coming to our attention. The idea is simple: Superimpose actual quotes from Mitt Romney, the teetotaling Republican candidate often accused of being out of touch with ordinary people, over pictures of Lucille Bluth, the vodka-swilling, laughably out-of-touch Arrested Development character. The results are surprisingly convincing.
